  • I feel like I've been following &Mother since the very beginning so must have found it through following Alysia's social media and work. I've also been a longtime fan of Allyson Felix, Kara Goucher, and others who started paving the way for this week to be done.

  • I've been so inspired and impacted by the work Alysia does both in her own ways and through &Mother for parents in the running space, especially birthing parents. Not just showing the processes of being pregnant, running, and being postpartum and running, but showing up in spaces and at tables where change could and needs to happen. The trickle-down effect is real and we're seeing it in real time. I wanted to be a part of that, in any way. I haven't run a race in NYC before and have always wanted to, so, this was the perfect combination of things for me!

  • I found &Mother through Instagram after having my second baby and trying, once again, to get back into professional triathlon racing

  • I returned to pro-level triathlon racing after having both children. But, after having my first, I really struggled with logistics. It was difficult to figure out how to continue breastfeeding/pumping at races either with or without my baby. I never had a nanny, so it was difficult to attend races with her, needing to make sure my parents were available to meet us at every race location. I hated to leave her home, both because I missed her and because I had to pump countless times and figure out how to store the milk on-the-go and then transport it home. When I saw what &Mother is doing to make it possible, and even easier, for moms to navigate the intricacies of training and competing after having children, it hit close to my heart and I knew I wanted to help. I love seeing what athletes can achieve in competition and as mothers.

  • Ages: 8 & 3

  • I’ve been a fan and supporter of &Mother for a long time. I was a huge follower of Alysia Montano when she was competing, especially when she ran the Olympic Trials while pregnant.

  • I have run the &Mother virtual 5K several times and saw this as an opportunity to work more closely with an organization that I admire and to support female athletes working to achieve their dreams. I was especially inspired by all of the mothers who competed in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and what a difference financial support can make in their ability to train and take care of their families.

  • After reading about &Mother in some running magazines and then researching them a bit I was so impressed and wanted to support this great organization.

  • I have been running for years, and to now see lactation tents and woman supporting women in this way is just fantastic! I want to see & Mother and the support of women athletes in all corners of our running and sports communities!!

Hannah Matthews

  • I'm a huge fan of women's professional running, so I heard about &Mother from podcasts I listen to and athletes I follow.

  • I lived in New York City for six years, and I used to spectate the NYC Half in my neighborhood! I've wanted to run it for a while now, and the opportunity to do so while supporting a cause I care about was too good to pass up. As someone who hopes to be a mother one day while also holding on to my career goals and personal passions (like running!), &Mother's work feels deeply personal to me.

  • I run in honor of my 3 children that tragically passed away last year; they were: 5, 3, and 8 months.

  • Through a friend of a friend. Heard there was a bib available and jumped on it.

  • The memory of my kids inspired me to run the Boston Marathon and this race serves as a nice training event. Their mother, who had postpartum psychosis, was a nurse who worked the night shift and often faced the same challenges that &Mother seeks to resolve.
